Disclaimer: This post will not include dollar signs—it’s all about heart signs, celebrating the generosity and compassion that embody the true spirit of giving.
This Giving Tuesday, I launched two fundraisers for missions close to my heart—one to provide scholarships for college women in Turkiye and another to support an autism nonprofit serving economically disadvantaged autistic children. Both initiatives are facilitated through Bridge to Turkiye, a U.S.-based charitable organization whose name always reminds me of a long, enduring bridge of helpful hands connecting the United States to Turkiye.
I’ve always believed in the transformative power of a woman’s education—how it opens doors and creates ripples of opportunity that stretch across generations. Autism advocacy is equally close to my heart. Autistic children from less fortunate circumstances face immense barriers, but with the proper support, they can learn, grow, and thrive in truly life-changing ways.
The week culminated in a tradition I treasure—the annual holiday party hosted by my gracious friends Ergun and Juliana Kirlikovali, who warmly open their home each year to celebrate the spirit of giving. Organized by those who have championed community events over the years, this gathering brought together eighteen different nonprofits, each with a story to tell, a mission to share, and lives to impact.
There was magic in every corner of the celebration. Guests mingled at tables brimming with stories of hope, capturing moments in photos, and exchanging heartfelt conversations about these organizations’s incredible work. Newcomers were embraced with open arms, and the atmosphere was alive with a sense of inclusion and shared purpose.
Turkish live music filled the estate’s garden, its soulful melodies infusing the gathering with festive energy. As afternoon faded into evening, a dazzling array of lights illuminated the guests, casting a warm and vibrant glow over the celebration. A gourmet Turkish dinner followed, with each dish bursting with rich, vibrant flavors. More than just a meal, it was a celebration of culture, a testament to heritage, and a beautiful reminder of how food can bridge divides and bring people together.
This holiday party, attended by 380 guests, is more than just an event—it’s a cherished tradition rooted in the purest spirit of giving. Each year, it serves as a heartfelt reminder of what we can achieve when we come together with open hearts. For this, I extend my deepest gratitude to the Kirlikovali family.
The week left me filled with gratitude—not just for the generosity that poured in but for the trust, connection, and hope it fostered. I believe generosity is giving without expectation, yet it offers us something profound: the reassurance that we can rely on one another as we work toward shared dreams.
What is your holiday tradition? What sparks joy for you during this season of giving?
